Behind the Scenes with Make Up Artist Michelle Dacillo

We caught up with London based Make Up Artist Michelle Dacillo this week for insight into the look she created for Three Floor AW15… not forgetting her top tips, tricks and go-to products of the season!

So Michelle… Tell us about the look you created for the Three Floor AW15 Campaign.

The campaign has elements of romance so I designed a look that worked with this and also the velvet set that was built for the shoot.  I layered a few different shades of red lipstick to create depth, mainly NARS Shanghai Express, MAC Ruby Woo and MAC Chilli. To create the velvety matte texture, I dabbed Makeup Forever Pure Pigment in 8 Carmine onto the centre of the lips.  She’s a bit high maintenance.  To offset the richness of the lips, I applied a light luminous base using BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfectors to give a nice sheen.  As the lips were quite busy, I lightly contoured the eyes with a mixture of the same BECCA product and a MAC Paint Pot in Ground Work.  Finally, I dabbed MAC Mixing Medium in Shine here and there for good measure.

You have a pretty impressive clientele and have worked for some amazing brands, how did you get to where you are today?

By being nice!  Of course, creating good work is important, but being friendly and interested in what’s going on goes a long way too.  Shoot days can be long and drawn out, so I try and help keep energy and spirits high.

If we peeked into your make-up bag, what products would we find?

YSL Touche Eclat Foundation, Maybelline Age-Rewind Concealer, Shu Uemura Lash Curlers, Guerlain Maxi Lash Waterproof Mascara, L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper, Jurlique Rose Powder, Stila Convertible Colour in Petunia and Lucas’ Paw Paw Ointment.  Sometimes I’ll do a lip and if I do, it’s usually a brick red lippy in MAC Chilli and Auburn lip liner.

and last but not least, what is your top beauty tip?

Take good care of your skin and use SPF on your face everyday (even in London).  Whether you like to wear a little or a lot of makeup, everything will look better on top of skin that’s in good shape.  If I slept in, I would skip makeup but not skincare! My long time favourite cleanser is Cetaphil lotion which works for even the most sensitive skin.  I also love the Nude ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil which is really comforting and gives a great glow.
