After our successful talk last week we were very excited for our packed out show on Thursday 21st!
Guests were welcomed into the VIP apartment at The Hoxton Holborn, treated with a special Three Floor gift bag filled with goodies from hair products from KEVIN.MURPHY to, healthy teas from Bellevue Tea, Vita Coco’s and snacks from Urban Fruit! This week we had an insight into the world of buying and what actually goes into being a buyer! If you’re thinking of launching a fashion business, work in the retail world or just want to know more about what your customers want, this event was the one for you! The Panelists included Vikki Kavanagh, former Fashion Buyer for Harvey Nichols and now Buying Director for Very Exclusive. We then introduced Alice Cuffe, Fashion Market Editor of Motilo and Tena Strok of independent boutique Celestine Eleven in East London to discuss ‘The way we shop now – how can a pure play online store really understand its customer?’
Our fantastic host, stylist and editor of Disorder magazine Rebekah Roy introduced and discussed topics with each panelist. Vikki spoke to us about her different experiences with high profile, luxury fashion ‘bricks and mortar’ retailers versus some newly launched pure play store. With more than a decade of buying experience under her belt and a series of career moves that have shaped her eye, she Is now the creative force behind new fashion e-tailer, Very Exclusive, which stocks the Three Floor collection and with only a few months in, has already attracted the kind of cult following many established e-tailers could only dream of.
Next on the floor was London based fashion editor and founding member of digital social shopping site Motilo.com, Alice Cuffe. Alice brought her extensive knowledge of digital shopping and online fashion consumption to the conversation. Despite no digital experience past email and Facebook prior to joining and a rather rough initial landscape for digital, high-fashion sites at the time, Alice took her background in fashion journalism and embraced a new fashion culture dominated by tech.
Director and Buyer of super cool East London Boutique Tena Strok added a unique perspective of how a small, independent boutique can use its customer insight and service to compete with the major players in the online fashion space.
“Fashion is in such an exciting place right now. Each season it seems we’re being brought closer and closer to a new model of post- trend-led modernity. We’re seeing fewer trends and more things we would actually like to wear. Surely this is the whole point of fashion?”
